KUMQUAT LIQUEUR FROM CORFU (PGI)

Kumquat is a fruit of the citrus family. It comes from China, it has been known since the 12th century and in Chinese kumquat means “golden orange”.
It was first brought to Corfu by the English in 1864, and specifically the botanist Sidney Merlin (1856-1952), also known for the orange variety of the same name that he first cultivated on his estate in Dasia.
It is the only fruit whose peel is eaten and is sweeter than its flesh. It is a good source of antioxidants, vitamins, fiber and essential oils.
Eaten raw whole, it becomes a delicious spoon dessert, jam and excellent liqueur.
